**Cycle Felixstowe: Important meeting @ Sunday 11am - March minutes/ Constitution Meeting/ membershi

Hello & thanks for reading! We have been working hard to progress things with the group, but Cycle Felixstowe is nothing without your support.

Below are a few updates for you in regards to recent meetings:

Constitution & Membership Meeting - 9th April @ 11am, Felixstowe Library- IP11 7BY - CAKE PROVIDED!

We are having a meeting to adopt the draft constitution available here : http://cyclefelixstowe.proboards.com/post/268 < & we would like you to attend and help direct the focus of Cycle Felixstowe.

We have provisionally voted in the following roles to begin exploring bank accounts & insurance, although we are looking for a treasurer as Nigel took the role on to tide us over until we are able to find someone willing to perform the role:

- Committee Chairman – Ian Lightfoot (seconded by Susannah Danby, Neil Drane, Nigel Best and agreed by all members present.) - Secretary – Martin Catchpole (seconded by Susannah Danby, Bryan Frost and Stewart Lamb and agreed by all members present.) - Membership Secretary – Susannah Danby (seconded by Martin Catchpole, David Roberts and Bryan Frost and agreed by all members present.) - Treasurer – Nigel Best (seconded by Martin Catchpole, Neil Drane and Ian Lightfoot and agreed by all members present.)

We are adopting a constitution primarily so we are able to open a bank account to fundraise for the group to pay for insurance for the rides. We will be able to claim funds to help pay insurance from the Felixstowe & District Sports Council for this year, and to be able to secure the groups funding for future insurance/costs or promoting the group through a membership payable to become a member of the Cycle Felixstowe group - this is also a requirement of the insurance.

Your comments & votes (proxy if you cannot make the meeting - received up until 10am Sunday) on the groups direction are important as this is a community group. From day one it was agreed by Susannah & myself that we would not continue if there was no positive feedback from the meetings - now there is a solid core with people helping both plan & run the group & turning up to the rides regularly. This has led to the group taking on its own identity - however - it is only as strong as those who voice their opinion, this is your chance! Anything to add or to take away welcome.

*** MAY EVENT! YOUR SUPPORT WELCOMED!!*** 24hr Cycle Challenge @ The Triangle May 6-7th

The plan is to have a 24hr cycle on 2 excercise bikes in the Triangle from 11am Saturday 6th to 11am Sunday 7th May - the reason? To raise money for local charities, raise our profile, and to get together on a project as a group.

If you can lend your time either on the bike, supporting the riders, or any skills (baking / drinks of all kinds welcomed!) to the project in anyway please get in touch & let us know...

We have asked many businesses in Felixstowe already to spare someone to ride in the challenge and signed up around quarter of the 24hr slots already with employees donating their time to ride - we are making the rounds on the remaining ones this week - keep that weekend free!

We have adopted BikeActive - a local group run by Peter Robinson (http://www.bikeactive.org.uk) as one charity - any other suggestions welcomed & will be voted on at the meeting on the 9th April.

Wesel Updates

So - we have decided to delay the Wesel ride this year until at least September & possibly next year.

here are a group of Wesel residents coming this weekend to visit Felixstowe, they may join us for the 'All Abilities' ride on this Saturday (9am at the Pier to Landguard for breakfast) - if they do not come on the ride we will be meeting them at the town hall for a chat about cycling in Wesel.

One idea for this year is to simply visit Wesel in September for a weekend, by rail sail or car & sail - then cycle while we are there. Francis & Mary Cotterell and Richard Holland are kindly acting as our communication bridge to the Wesel residents who run the cycle hire shop there who are also part of the contingent visiting this weekend ))

Regular Ride Update & Next Rides

We now run 2 rides on the same day every 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday of each month;

- 'All Abilities' Prom cycle ride (Pier at 9am, 1.5 miles to Landguard Viewpoint Cafe) - next ride 8th April <info here: http://cyclefelixstowe.proboards.com/post/252/thread >

- 'Open Road' cycle rides of between 10-25miles (Triangle, 10:30am) - next ride 8th April <info here: http://cyclefelixstowe.proboards.com/post/253/thread >

Any ideas for further rides very welcome ))

We look forward to hearing from you, and welcome your attendance to both the rides on the 8th and the meeting on the 9th April - see you soon!
