First Meeting - summary
We had our first meeting last Thursday 15th September at Felixstowe Library - thank you all who attended & gave suggestions via chats during our poster/ flyering & emails. It was good to hear a variety of cycling experiences & ideas going forward - this is a quick summary, please see the 'Meetings' section of the website for full agenda/ minutes from the meeting...
Our main aims for the group (from our brainstorm):
1) To campaign & engage with the local council/parishes/ authorities for better or improved infrastructure/awareness/safe cycling routes.
2) To get people cycling- and keeping them cycling by having local rides for people of all abilities, confidence building, basic bike maintenance, charity and community events ect and in time, maybe even to provide training for people
We discussed much more, including what we will discuss in the next meeting, with key local points such as:
Trimley Cycle Lanes – who to contact about making the lanes (or part of?) parking free
Promenade approach – to embrace? Organise a celebratory single file ride?
Gulpher Road – make more cycle friendly? (Walton/ Felixstowe Ferry link road – also a sustrans route (to be confirmed)
Think about further local issues with cycling that could be improved to discuss at next meeting
Collect details of councils/ parish/ organisations to contact about local issues with who to engage with about local issues
Begin to plan writing introductory letters to other groups/ clubs (re:shared use of Prom also: running groups ect)
Events – to plan & run a ride in Felixstowe/ surrounding areas
Establish our ‘Mission Statement’ / tagline for the group to define us from other groups
If you have any comments or suggestions for the next meeting or you'd like to join in, get in contact :)
